Drew Watson, PhD Scientific Advisor


Dr. Watson is an experienced biostatistician and computational biologist with over 35 years’ experience in the development of oncology, cardiology and neurology related therapeutics and molecular diagnostic tests. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Biostatistics and Clinical Studies for Invitae. His responsibilities at Invitae included analytical, algorithmic and clinical development of molecular genomic and genetic tests in such disease areas as oncology, cardiology, neurology and pediatrics. Dr. Watson is an influential leader in the fields of biostatistics, personalized medicine, molecular diagnostics, quality and business management. As a Strategic Advisor to Bullet Bio, he helps in the design, analysis and reporting of analytical and clinical validation studies.

Prior to Invitae, Dr. Watson was the Senior Vice President of Biostatistics¸ Data Management and Medical Operations for Genomic Health. At Genomic Health he was instrumental in the development of Oncotype DX®– a clinically-validated diagnostic test that has revolutionized personal medicine by quantifying the likelihood of disease recurrence in women with early-stage breast cancer and providing individualized estimates of predicted chemotherapy benefit. He has unique experience in the development of quantitative assays, including quantitative PCR (qPCR) and next generation sequencing methodologies, and reference standards for clinically validated commercial applications.

Dr. Watson is a scientific and business advisor to multiple companies and has numerous publications. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics from California State University, East Bay, a Master of Science degree in Computational Statistics from Stanford University, an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University and a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from UCLA.
